Rick Wolfe (at right-2011) has always loved stained glass. In 1973 he learned how to design and fabricate stained glass items. He started an apprenticeship in traditional techniques with the Rudy Glass Company of York, PA in 1974 and later studied contemporary design with Roy Calligan and Narcissus Quagliata.
For the next ten years he exhibited his work at regional shows in Pennsylvania and New York, including the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts and the juried shows of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Rick still designs stained and etched glass windows for homes, churches and public institutions.
Rick started Watsontown Glass Company in 1981, when he was commissioned to restore and cover the stained glass windows at a local church. His studio was too small to handle the size of the project so he rented a building on Main Street. The success of that project led to other types of work.
In 1985, a tornado devastated homes just north of Watsontown and Rick learned how to repair windows and screens. The renovations at the Watson Inn provided him with the opportunity to learn about large mirror wall installation. The construction of the Federal Correction Complex in Allenwood gave him the opportunity to study security glazing.
Watsontown Glass Company has developed into a full-service residential glass shop offering a wide variety of services, and one can view Rick’s work all over central PA, and in homes throughout the country.
Today the business employs 2 full time ladies, Sadie & Amy, and 1 part time road warrior Wonder Bill, who do their best to help Rick in his quest to get everything done!
Where’s Amy?
Since spending my apprenticeship with Watsontown Glass Company, I’m following the traditional timeline of the trade and in my journey-years, exploring glass in the Pacific Northwest! A few of my 2008 -2012 pieces are available in the care of Watsontown Glass Co., and other merchants in Pennsylvania. See the Merchant Page for detailed information.
Most of these ingredients were cast-offs & shards from other projects, Re-Puzzled for my fulfillment and your enjoyment.
MY DESIGNS ARE ORIGINAL, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED.
